Pine Martens In Moray

Pine martens are a type of mustelid that can be found in Scotland. They are native to the United Kingdom, and historically were found throughout much of Scotland. However, due to habitat loss and hunting, their populations declined dramatically in the 19th and 20th centuries, and by the 1990s, they were largely restricted to small pockets of woodland in the north-west Highlands.

In recent years, there have been efforts to reintroduce pine martens to other parts of Scotland, and these efforts have been largely successful. As of 2021, pine martens can be found in many parts of Scotland, including the central belt, and their populations are believed to be growing. This is seen as a positive development, as pine martens are important predators in the woodland ecosystem, helping to control populations of rodents and other small mammals.
